Spur to Appeal GPS Damages Award in Ongoing Arbitration Battle

DIY TRENDS

Spur Corporation has confirmed it will appeal the arbitrator’s recent ruling in its dispute with UK-based GPS Food Group, after a part award was handed down last week in favor of GPS.

The arbitration, which centers on a failed international joint venture agreement, saw the arbitrator rule on Claim A in GPS’s favor on August 26.

The decision establishes Spur’s liability but does not yet determine the amount of damages payable. A second dispute, Claim B, has yet to be ruled on.

In a statement, Spur said it would exercise its right to appeal under the arbitration agreement.

The company has 30 days from August 26 to lodge the appeal, which will be heard by a panel of three arbitrators.

The appeal will rely on the same pleadings and documents already submitted, and its outcome will be final and binding, with no further right of appeal.

Spur stressed that the arbitration remains ongoing and that the financial implications cannot be determined until both the appeal and the outstanding claim are resolved.

The long-running legal tussle between Spur and GPS has drawn investor attention, given potential impacts on Spur’s international expansion strategy and financial exposure.
