South African drivers are set for a welcome relief at the pumps this week. From Wednesday, 5 November 2025, both petrol and diesel prices will drop, offering motorists some savings ahead of the festive season.
Petrol Price Cuts:
-
93‑octane and 95‑octane petrol will both decrease by R0.51 per litre.
-
Inland retail reference prices:
-
93‑octane: R20.97/L (from R21.48)
-
95‑octane: R21.12/L (from R21.63)
-
-
Coastal retail reference prices:
-
93‑octane: R20.18/L
-
95‑octane: R20.29/L
-
Diesel Price Adjustments:
-
Diesel with 0.05% sulphur will fall by R0.21/L, and 0.005% sulphur by R0.19/L, reflecting global fuel price trends.
Why Are Prices Dropping?
The cuts come as a result of two main factors:
-
Lower international crude prices during the past month, which reduce the cost of imported fuel.
-
A stronger South African rand, which lessens the rand equivalent of dollar-denominated fuel imports.
Impact on Drivers:
For vehicles with a 60-litre tank, the petrol drop alone could save drivers around R30 per fill-up. Daily commuters and frequent drivers may notice meaningful savings over the month.
Important Notes:
-
These are official price adjustments. Retail prices may differ slightly depending on the station and location.
-
Global oil price shifts or currency fluctuations could affect future fuel prices.
Summary:
South Africans will see a clear reduction in petrol and diesel prices from Wednesday, providing some financial relief at the pump. With petrol down by over 50 cents per litre, it’s an opportunity for drivers to plan their fuel budgets ahead of the busy holiday season.
