The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the payment schedule for August 2026 and used the announcement to clarify why some beneficiaries are paid outside the standard three-day cycle.
According to SASSA, Older Persons Grants will be paid on Tuesday, August 4, followed by Disability Grants on Wednesday, August 5, and Children’s Grants on Thursday, August 6.
A fourth date, Friday, August 7, has been set aside specifically for beneficiaries who have been identified for a grant review or eLife Certification.
SASSA National Spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said the agency has picked up that a portion of beneficiaries still don’t understand why this extra payment date exists, and can become anxious when their money doesn’t arrive during the usual window — even after being notified in advance.
Letsatsi used July’s payment cycle to illustrate how the system works: Older Persons Grants were paid on July 2, Disability Grants on July 3, and Children’s Grants on July 6.
Beneficiaries still due for a review or eLife Certification were paid on July 7, which SASSA refers to as the fourth payment day.
Anyone paid on that fourth day is required to visit their nearest SASSA office to complete the review process. Skipping this step risks having the grant suspended in the following payment cycle.
SASSA also renewed its call for beneficiaries to keep their contact and address details current, warning that outdated information means important notifications will keep going to an old number or address.
Letsatsi said the agency uses the information captured in its system when a person first applied for a grant, and will keep sending communication there if changes aren’t reported.
The agency said grant reviews and eLife Certification are carried out under the Social Assistance Act to confirm continued eligibility, prevent payouts to deceased or ineligible individuals, detect fraud, and protect the integrity of the social grants system.
