Canadian robotics company Novarc Technologies has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korean shipbuilding giant Hanwha Ocean to accelerate the development of automated welding and AI-powered manufacturing systems for advanced shipbuilding applications.
The partnership, announced during BC Innovation Day in Victoria, Canada, aims to combine Novarc’s expertise in robotic welding and industrial AI with Hanwha Ocean’s large-scale shipbuilding capabilities and smart shipyard infrastructure.
The collaboration will focus on developing next-generation welding automation technologies designed to improve production efficiency, weld quality, and operational safety in shipbuilding environments.
The companies are also expected to explore AI-driven manufacturing systems capable of supporting autonomous fabrication processes in modern shipyards.
As global shipbuilders race to modernize operations, smart shipyard technologies are becoming increasingly important.
