Tanzania plans to construct a major bridge to connect mainland to the Islands of Zanzibar, deputy minister of Works and Transport Godfrey Kasekenya in Parliament recently.
Upon completion, the bridge, 50 km, long is expected to ease movement of goods and people. China Overseas Engineering Group Company (COVEC) have shown interest in building the bridge, according to Mr Kasekenya.
“Discussions are ongoing between mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar and construction of the bridge will involve a partnership with the private sector,” he said.
