Kenya’s Kabarak University, has embarked on the construction of what it says would be, upon completion, the first and only mission referral hospital in the country offering world class services.
Kabarak University Teaching, Research and Referral Mission Hospital is slated to be completed by 2020. Hatched by former president Daniel Moi, the project will be constructed at a cost of Sh 45 billion.
The hospital will be constructed on 100 hectares of land and will be complete with a cancer centre, a medical research centre, specialties in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology and other diagnostic services, a funeral home, staff houses and a business centre, among others.
The project will be financed by US based Private Equity Sygec international among other stakeholders.
The Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) for the project will include EIFFAGE (French based), EGMF (Belgium) and CMB (Italian).
Plans to construct the hospital was first mooted in 1978, When president Moi was in power.
