Construction of three solar parks with a combined capacity of 166.5 MWp has kicked off in Egypt, German-based solar developer Ib vogt GmbH has said.

Ib vogt GmbH will be working in partnership with Egyptian renewable energy developer Infinity Solar Energy SAE, Phoenix Energy and BPE Partners.

The German solar firm will work on the model of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the solar parks.

The three facilities will be located at the Benban complex in Aswan governorate, which is planned to have a capacity of 1.8 GWp.

These are the first solar plants under construction, as part of the second round of Egypt’s Feed-in Tariff (FiT) programme.

The three solar power plants extend over a total area of 270 hectares and will feature approximately 500,000 solar modules fitted on horizontal tracking systems.

Using a total of 500,000 PV modules, the solar parks will be able to generate more than 400,000 MWh of electricity per year, or enough to supply about 55,000 households. Upon completion early next year, they will sell their output under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with state-owned Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC).

Anton Milner, managing director of ib vogt said that their experience and capabilities in managing such projects will enable efficiency and timely completion of the projects.

“Following the successful construction and energisation of our 64MWp round one project in Egypt, we are pleased to announce the commencement of the build-out of our next three plants in this series and are proud that these are the first of the round two projects,” Said Mr Milner.

“We, together with our local partners, have demonstrated our strong capabilities to manage the complex issues in building these projects in Egypt, incorporating all stakeholders, local community and local specific requirements to deliver the projects,” He explained.

Egypt plans to generate 42 percent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2025.
