Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is strengthening its next-generation excavator portfolio with the introduction of the new ECR255 short-swing model, set to make its global trade show debut at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 in Las Vegas.
As part of the Road to CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 series, CCE NEWS highlights the machines and technologies that will be drawing contractors, fleet owners and project managers to exhibitor booths ahead of the world’s largest construction equipment exhibition.
Volvo CE’s latest launch positions the company as a must-visit destination for those seeking high-performance machines designed for confined and demanding jobsites.
Designed for urban construction, utilities and infrastructure projects, the 25-ton ECR255 combines a compact tail swing with increased lifting power and improved fuel efficiency.
The model replaces the previous ECR235E, delivering a 7% boost in lifting capacity and up to 10% lower fuel consumption, making it a highly attractive solution for contractors focused on productivity and operating cost reduction.
The ECR255 joins Volvo CE’s growing family of short-swing excavators in the new-generation lineup, alongside the large ECR355, mid-size ECR145 and compact ECR90.
Together, the range gives customers flexibility to choose the right machine for space-restricted environments without compromising performance.
“This launch means Volvo now offers a comprehensive range of short-swing models in our new generation of excavators, giving customers the flexibility to choose the right machine for their application without compromise,” said Jaesu Kim, Chief Project Manager at Volvo CE.
“It’s designed to help customers do more in confined spaces thanks to its reduced tail swing, increased lifting capability, lower fuel consumption and industry-leading operator environment.”
Built for Efficiency, Power and Precision
At the heart of the ECR255 is an advanced electro-hydraulic control system that features smart cooling and engine speed regulation, delivering higher torque at lower rpm.
The result is smoother response, reduced energy loss and improved fuel efficiency. Automatic idling, engine shutdown and selectable work modes further help contractors minimize operating costs while maintaining high performance.
Structural redesign and a heavier counterweight contribute to the machine’s 7% increase in lifting capacity, expanding its versatility across lifting, trenching and material handling applications.
Volvo Active Control enables semi-automated boom and bucket movements, allowing faster, more precise digging and grading, while reducing operator fatigue.
Features such as a floating dozer blade, boundary limits and swing priority functions make the ECR255 well suited for complex work in tight spaces.
Uptime, Safety and Operator Comfort
To support maximum uptime, the ECR255 offers extended service intervals, including 1,000-hour engine oil changes and 3,000-hour hydraulic oil changes.
Ground-level service access, grouped maintenance points and standard telematics simplify daily checks and enable predictive maintenance planning.
Safety is enhanced through optional Volvo Smart View with Obstacle Detection, providing 360-degree visibility and object recognition to help operators work more confidently on busy jobsites.
Inside the cab, operators benefit from a spacious, low-noise environment that is approximately 20% larger than typical short-swing excavator cabs.
A high-resolution Volvo Co-Pilot display, customizable machine settings, improved climate control, Bluetooth connectivity and wireless charging all contribute to a more productive and comfortable workday.
