Millions of South African caregivers can breathe a little easier this month.
SASSA has confirmed that Children’s Grants for June 2026 will be paid out on Thursday, 4 June 2026 — one of the earliest possible dates in the month.
After disruptions to the April and May payment cycles, the return to a normal four-week rotation is welcome news for the more than 14 million households who depend on these grants.
June 2026 Payment Date
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) staggers its monthly payments over three consecutive days, starting with Older Persons’ grants, followed by Disability grants, and concluding with Children’s grants. For June 2026, the schedule is as follows:
- Older Persons Grant — Monday, 2 June 2026
- Disability Grant — Tuesday, 3 June 2026
- Children’s Grants — Wednesday, 4 June 2026
Note: Youth Day (16 June) does not affect any of these payment dates.
The Three SASSA Children’s Grants Explained
SASSA administers three grants that fall under the “Children’s Grants” category. All three received increases in April 2026 as part of the 2026/27 budget adjustments.
- Child Support Grant (CSG)
The Child Support Grant is the largest social grant in South Africa by volume, reaching more than 13 million qualifying households. It was increased from R560 to R580 in April 2026.
Who qualifies:
- You must be the primary caregiver of a child under 18 years of age
- Your monthly income must not exceed R5,100 (or R61,200 per year)
- For married couples or partners, the income limit doubles to R10,200 per month (R122,400 per year)
- Foster Child Grant
The Foster Child Grant is available exclusively to court-appointed foster homes. It increased by R40 in April 2026, rising from R1,250 to R1,290 per month.
- Care Dependency Grant
The Care Dependency Grant supports caregivers of mentally or physically disabled children under the age of 18.
It pays the same rate as the adult Disability Grant and increased by R80 in April 2026, from R2,320 to R2,400 per month.
Eligibility must be confirmed by a state-appointed doctor, whether the disability is temporary or permanent.
