A major hydropower project is set for construction in Gabon following the signing of a turnkey agreement between Asonha Energie and Chinese engineering and construction firm Sinohydro on Tuesday.
The 35-MW Kinguélé Aval hydroelectric dam will be contsructed on Mbei river approximately 100-km from Libreville, the project will generate 205 gigawatt-hours of clean energy per year, equating to 13% of current electricity consumption in the capital city.
“Kinguélé Aval is the first in a long series of structured and innovative projects that will participate in the growth and economic and social development of Gabon and improve access to clean energy for all,” said Akim Mohamed Daouda, Director-General of Gabonese Strategic Investment Fund (FGIS).
First commissioning of the hydroelectric dam is anticipated for 2023.
