More News

Before the emergence of computers and architectural design software, hand drawing was the only way an architect could communicate his ideas with his team or clients.

Hand drawing still exists but with the emergence of latest drawing technology means that the field has also to evolve in line with current times.

Here are top architectural design software an architect should master:

Sketchup

This architectural design software allows an architect to come up with a 3D sketch of his designs. The software was bought by Google but later sold to Trimple in 2012. It has become a popular software among architects. It has a user friendly interface and as such easy to use. However, many of its export features are disabled. Where can I find this software you ask? Well it can be downloaded for free from the internet.

Revit

Unlike Sketchup which has limited rendering capabilities, Revit produces a total project output including modeling, rendering, and 2D construction documents. It allows the architect to use real walls instead of lines and circles. It allows users to design a building and structure and its components in 3D, annotate the model with 2D drafting elements, and access building information from the building model’s database.

Autocad

This architectural design software permits architects to draw 3D objects, such as walls, doors, and windows, with more intelligent data associated with them rather than simple objects, such as lines and circles. The data can be programmed to represent specific architectural products sold in the construction industry, or extracted into a data file for pricing, materials estimation, and other values related to the objects represented. But is its now becoming obsolete thanks to Revit. AutoCAD was first released in December 1982.

Photoshop

This software is commonly used by magazine designers.Photoshop produces high quality photos. It is very crucial when creating renderings.

V-Ray

V-Ray is a computer-generated imagery rendering software application developed by the Bulgarian company Chaos Group (Bulgarian: Хаос Груп), that was established in Sofia in 1997.

V-Ray is a commercial plug-in for third-party 3D computer graphics software applications and is used for visualizations and computer graphics in industries such as media, entertainment, film and video game production, industrial design, product design and architecture.

InDesign

Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers, presentations, books and ebooks.
