PRETORIA, South Africa – The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that beneficiaries of the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will receive their June 2026 payments between 24 June and 25 June 2026.
The announcement provides clarity for millions of South Africans who rely on the monthly grant and are awaiting their payments.
In addition to confirming the payment dates, SASSA revealed that it is introducing a WhatsApp self-service channel aimed at making it easier for SRD beneficiaries to access information and manage certain enquiries without visiting a local office or contacting the agency’s call centre.
According to SASSA, the automated service is designed to provide convenient access to key information through WhatsApp, helping beneficiaries save time while reducing congestion at physical service points.
The agency has indicated that the WhatsApp self-service platform can be accessed via 082 601 0111.
The new initiative forms part of SASSA’s broader efforts to modernise service delivery and improve accessibility for grant recipients across South Africa through digital channels.
Beneficiaries are encouraged to verify their payment status and ensure that their personal and banking details are accurate to avoid unnecessary delays in receiving their grants.
The June payment schedule applies specifically to the COVID-19 SRD grant and is separate from the payment dates for other social grants administered by SASSA.
As the agency continues expanding its digital services, the introduction of the WhatsApp self-service channel is expected to offer beneficiaries a faster and more convenient way to obtain support and essential grant-related information from their mobile devices.
