Vestas Seals Major Turbine Supply Deal for UK Offshore Wind Farm

EVENTS SPOTLIGHT

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has secured a major offshore wind contract in the United Kingdom, marking one of the largest turbine supply deals announced in Europe this year.

The company confirmed it has received a firm order to supply turbines for RWE’s 1.38-gigawatt Vanguard West offshore wind project, located off the coast of Norfolk in eastern England.

Massive Offshore Wind Order

Under the agreement, Vestas will deliver 92 V236-15.0 megawatt offshore wind turbines, one of the largest commercial turbine models currently on the market.

The deal includes turbine supply, delivery, commissioning, and an initial five-year service contract, followed by long-term operational support.

The Vanguard West project is expected to reach final investment decision in 2026, with commissioning targeted for 2029, reinforcing the UK’s long-term offshore wind expansion pipeline.

Strengthening UK Renewable Energy Goals

The UK government has been accelerating offshore wind development through its latest Contracts for Difference auction round, which has helped unlock large-scale projects such as Vanguard West.

Vestas said the partnership sends a strong signal of confidence in the UK’s renewable energy ambitions and its drive to strengthen energy security and reduce electricity costs.

RWE, one of Europe’s largest renewable energy developers, highlighted the collaboration as a key step toward delivering the project and expanding its offshore wind portfolio in the North Sea.

Offshore Wind Industry Momentum

The deal comes at a critical time for the global offshore wind sector, which has faced rising costs, policy uncertainty, and delayed projects in recent years.

Large turbine orders such as this are viewed as a sign of renewed momentum in the European offshore wind market.

Vestas remains one of the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturers, with more than 200 gigawatts of installed wind capacity globally and a strong presence in offshore and onshore wind markets.

Outlook

With Vanguard West moving closer to construction, the project is expected to play a significant role in the UK’s transition to clean energy while boosting the offshore wind supply chain, including manufacturing, logistics, and maintenance services.
