Komatsu Ltd. sales for the first half of its fiscal year fell 7.9 percent compared to the same period last year, to 1.2 trillion yen (about $11 billion).
The construction, mining, and utility equipment side of the business fell 7.4 percent. Sales to North America increased 0.8 percent, and sales to Europe increased 7.6 percent. Sales fell 24.6 percent to China, 35 percent to Asia (excluding Japan and China), and 25.8 percent to Africa.
The company said it prepared to “deploy 41 units of the 930E-5 [autonomous] dump truck in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.”
It also said it has implemented its Smart Construction solutions to more than 8,700 construction job sites to date in Japan. It has made pilot deployments, mainly in the United States and Germany, in preparation for full-scale market introduction.
