It is a beehive of activity at Manhize steel plant construction site in Zimbabwe. The project is halfway complete according to construction firm Dinson Iron and Steel Company.
“Manhize steel plant construction is 50 percent complete due to the diligence, skills, commitment and unity of our working family,” the company tweeted early this month.
It is a key project for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s investment programmes under his Zimbabwe is open for business mantra.
Equipped with a 1.5km-by-600-metre carbon and steel plant, an iron ore mine, and a ferrochrome plant, the project will have the capacity of 1.2 million tonnes a year and about 500 people are set to benefit through employment.
The project, which will be Africa’s largest integrated steel plant, is anticipated to start production in August this year
The area is also near Chikomba in Mashonaland East Province and Mhondoro in Mashonaland West Province.
The plant, which will also come with a new town, has generated a lot of excitement in Chikomba as the local community expects to reap the benefits of job creation and availability of social services.
