Ethiopia now boasts of being the new aviation giant in Africa thanks to the newly constructed airport, the biggest in Africa.

To put things into perspective, the state-of-the-art passenger terminal at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport makes it bigger than Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport.

Build at at cost of US$363 million, the new  passenger terminal will help to serve the huge increase in volume given its strategic location and the available connectivity options.

The airport will now be able to accommodate 22 million passengers annually thanks to its additional 86,000 sqm in terminal two, 16,000 sqm in terminal one and 6,000 sqm for the new VIP terminal.

The terminal comes equipped with modern amenities including automated bag drop solutions, e-gates, self-check-in kiosks, baggage handling and the latest airport security technologies.

It also features best-in-breed technology in areas such as security systems, self-check-in machines, a self-boarding system, comfortable lounges, duty free shops, restaurants and lots more amenities.

Conveniently located adjacent to the airport, its unique aircraft shape design provides 373 guest rooms and spacious executive suites, four restaurants including the largest Chinese restaurant in Africa, two bars, a swimming pool, gym, health centre, café and gift shops.

The China-funded project began construction in 2015.
