Kenya will soon host the biggest medical research centre in Africa thanks to China’s financial support.
The Centre for Disease Prevention and Control Centre (CDC) will be constructed at an estimated cost of Sh8.3 billion.
The 21 storey CDC is also being supported by World Health Organisation and the African Union.
“The Africa CDC will position Kenya as a regional and continental hub in medical research and disease control, and give the country a head start in combating disease outbreaks like the current Coronavirus pandemic,” the PSCU said in a statement on Thursday.
The plan comes amid upsurge in the spread of the novel Coronavirus that started in China. The virus has brought the the entire world on a standstill with far reaching economic ramifications.
