Chinese construction companies continue to play a major role in major infrastructure development in Africa. It is common to see Chinese banners in construction projects as as roads, bridges, energy and railway lines. We look at some of the top Chinese construction companies Uganda.
China Communications Construction Company (CCCC)
China Communications Construction Company Limited (“CCCC” or the “Company”), initiated and founded by China Communications Construction Group (“CCCG”), was incorporated on 8 October 2006. Its H shares were listed on the Main Board of Hong Kong Stock Exchange with stock code of 1800.HK on 15 December 2006. The company operates in many parts of Africa and Globally. It is one of the Chinese construction companies in Uganda. The company is involved in the construction of roads and bridges in Uganda.
China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd. (CSCEC)
China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd. (CSCEC) is a Chinese company with over 60 years of existence. It is one of the largest construction company in the world by revenue and the 14th largest general contractor in terms of overseas sales, as of 2016. It is upgrading Kapchorwa-Suam Road from gravel to asphalt, this rural road is in the Eastern Region of Uganda. The road links Kapchorwa, through Kween to Suam, at the international border with Kenya.
Sinohydro
Sinohydro is another Chinese construction company operating in Uganda.is a Chinese state-owned hydropower engineering and construction company. In the 2012 Engineering News-Record Top 225 Global Contractors, a ranking by annual revenue, the company is 14th by overall position, and 6th among Chinese construction companies. It operates in over 55 countries around the world. In Uganda, the company is involved in the construction of hydroelectric projects.
China Gezhouba Construction Company
China Gezhouba Construction Company is also one of the most recognizable Chinese construction companies in Uganda. It is based in Wuhan, Hubei. According to 2014 numbers, the company is the 33rd largest contractor by revenue in the world.[2] Major shareholder of the company (40.8%) is state-owned China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC), which is in turn a member company of the China Energy Engineering Corporation (Energy China). In Uganda is it involved in the development of solar energy projects.
China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG)
Founded in 1953, China Railway Construction Engineering Group (CRCEG) is a wholly-owned enterprise of China Railway Group Limited (CREC) – a Fortune Global 500 company and one of the World’s 500 most influential brands. In Uganda it has been involved in the construction roads and bridges.
China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation
China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), formerly the Foreign Aid Bureau of the Ministry of Railways, was established in 1979 under the approval of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China and was incorporated into China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) in 2003 for strategic regrouping under the approval of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. In Uganda, the company works on expressway projects such as the one connecting Busega with Mpigi.
