Iberdrola Begins Construction on 57MW Oregon Trail Solar Project, Creating 200 Jobs

EVENTS SPOTLIGHT

Iberdrola has begun installing solar panels at its Oregon Trail Solar project in Gilliam County, Oregon, marking a major construction milestone for the 57 MWdc (41 MWac) facility, the company announced through its US subsidiary Avangrid.

The project is currently supporting approximately 200 jobs and is expected to enter commercial operation in 2027.

Once complete, the plant will feature more than 100,000 solar panels capable of generating enough renewable electricity to power around 10,000 US homes annually.

Meeting rising electricity demand

Oregon Trail Solar is designed to help meet growing electricity demand in the United States while supporting broader electrification efforts.

Beyond its energy output, the project is expected to deliver lasting economic benefits to the local region through job creation and sustained economic activity.

Throughout its operational lifespan, the facility will contribute to regional development via property taxes and other local funding mechanisms, helping finance public services such as schools and infrastructure projects.

Part of a growing Oregon portfolio

The new solar plant sits alongside two other Avangrid assets in the region: Pachwáywit Fields, a 205 MWdc (162 MWac) solar facility already operational, and Shutler Energy Storage, a battery storage project with 41 MW of installed capacity and 82 MWh of storage capacity.

Avangrid currently operates more than 2,500 MW of installed capacity across Oregon. The state also hosts the company’s National Training Centre in Sherman County and a major corporate office in Portland.

Strengthening US energy infrastructure

The Oregon Trail Solar project reflects Iberdrola’s continued investment in US electricity infrastructure, as the company works to build a more secure, self-sufficient, and competitive energy system capable of meeting rising demand, generating skilled jobs, and supporting long-term community prosperity.
