Laminate flooring also referred to in the USA as  floating wood tile is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product fused together with a lamination process.

Laminate flooring simulates wood with a photographic applique layer under a clear protective layer. The inner core layer is usually composed of melamine resin and fiber board materials.

Due to its attractiveness and affordability,Laminate has in recent years become popular to homeowners. Its durability has also made it more popular. But did you know that laminate flooring can disappoint? Here is how:

  • Very challenging to install laminate in kitchens and dumpy places. This is because it is susceptible to moisture damage. if you install laminate in the kitchen then be sure to dry water spillage at all times.
  • Once laminate flooring wears out there is no choice but to replace them. This is because they cannot be refinished like for example hardwood.
  • Some laminate materials may be made with formaldehyde and other chemicals that release  toxic VOCs. However, stricter EPA guidelines have helped reduce VOC content in laminate flooring.
  • Because of its synthetic nature, it sounds loud when walked on.

Having said that, does it mean that laminate flooring has nothing good to offer? Not at all. Here are the pros of laminate flooring:

  • Durability

Some people who have tried laminate flooring say they can last up to 10 years.Laminate flooring is also resistant to impacts, stains, and won’t fade when exposed to sunlight.

  • Easy to install

It does not need to be nailed or glued because Laminate forms a floating floor making it easier to install.

  • Attractive

Laminate looks attractive just like real wood.due to the high resolution images that are presently used to create the many looks of laminate flooring, it’s hard to tell they are synthetic.

  • Flexibility

Laminate can be used virtually on any substance e.g concrete wood, plywood, OSB, and previously installed vinyl flooring.
