In a recent statement, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has firmly denied widespread rumours claiming that social grant beneficiaries will receive double payments in June 2025.
The agency has labeled these claims as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation among the public.
The rumours, which have gained traction on social media platforms and instant messaging apps, suggested that SASSA would issue two payments in June—sparking both excitement and confusion among beneficiaries.
However, SASSA has clarified that no such arrangement exists and urged citizens to rely only on official communication channels.
“We urge our beneficiaries to be vigilant and not fall for fake news. SASSA has not issued any announcement regarding double payments for June,” said Paseka Letsatsi, SASSA national spokesperson.
No Special Grant or New Rule in June
Letsatsi also addressed additional misinformation circulating online, including alleged changes to pension rules and new disbursement policies effective from June 10.
According to SASSA, these claims have no basis and have not been communicated through any official source.
“There are no new rules or changes to pension grants beginning in June. Any claims to the contrary are fake and should be ignored,” he emphasized.
Grant Increase Already Implemented in April
SASSA reminded the public that the only legitimate increase in grant payments was announced by the Ministry of Finance during the Budget Speech in March 2025.
These increases came into effect in April and are part of the agency’s standard adjustment schedule. The next scheduled adjustment will take place in October 2025.
