The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially confirmed the payment schedule for the Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, currently valued at R370 per month.
Beneficiaries can expect their funds to be disbursed between Wednesday, 27 August and Saturday, 30 August 2025.
The SRD grant, which supports millions of unemployed South Africans, is processed in monthly cycles, with payments typically allocated during the final week of each month.
SASSA has urged beneficiaries to check their individual status on the official SRD portal (srd.sassa.gov.za) to confirm approval and view the exact date when their funds will reflect.
“Beneficiaries are reminded that payments do not all occur on the same day,” SASSA noted. “Each approved applicant will receive an SMS notification once their funds are available.”
For those receiving payments through bank accounts, funds may reflect within 2–3 working days after processing, depending on the bank.
Beneficiaries collecting from retail outlets or cash send services must wait for the official SMS confirmation before visiting collection points to avoid long queues.
The late-August schedule follows SASSA’s ongoing efforts to streamline payments and ensure that the grant reaches vulnerable South Africans on time.
Earlier speculation suggested that payments could begin earlier in the month, but the agency has now clarified the confirmed window.
The SRD grant continues to play a crucial role in alleviating poverty, particularly as the cost of living rises.
According to recent figures, more than 8 million South Africans rely on the monthly R370 to cover essential needs such as food, transport, and electricity.
Beneficiaries are encouraged to plan ahead, collect funds safely, and remain vigilant against scams.
SASSA has warned that official communication will only come via SMS or the verified SRD website.
