Rand Water, South Africa’s largest bulk water supplier, has announced a large-scale infrastructure maintenance project scheduled to begin at 3:00 AM on Thursday, May 29, and conclude by 5:00 PM on Monday, June 2, 2025.

The initiative forms part of the utility’s broader strategy to ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of its water supply systems.

The planned maintenance will affect several key pumping stations, including Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton, and Zwartkopjes.

During the scheduled work, these stations will operate at reduced capacity, which could lead to low water pressure or intermittent water supply across parts of Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni.

In a statement, Rand Water confirmed that the maintenance has been carefully timed to coincide with the traditionally lower water usage period between May and July, thereby minimizing potential disruptions.

This proactive approach is also in preparation for increased demand and supply volumes anticipated from August onwards.

“This essential maintenance is part of our long-term infrastructure strategy. It aims to improve system performance and reduce the risk of unplanned outages,” Rand Water said.

Affected municipalities have been notified and are working closely with Rand Water to manage the impact.

Johannesburg Water, Ekurhuleni Water Care Company (ERWAT), and the City of Tshwane have each issued public notices encouraging communities to remain informed through official communication channels and to report any emergencies during the maintenance window.
