Sarens launches world’s largest heavy-lift crane

Belgium’s heavy lifting specialist Sarens has unveiled the world’s largest heavy-lift crane and promised to display an even bigger one in 2019.

The SGC-140 is part of the SGC family of cranes, a group of four cranes, namely: SGC-90. SGC-120,SGC-140, and SGC-250.
With a lifting capacity of 2820T at a radius of 50M, the SGC-140 has three different boom configurations of 89, 118, and 130M.
It has a maximum ground pressure of 25 T/M2 and has in-service and out-of-service wind speeds of 22,4 M/S and 56 M/S respectively.
Dubbed ‘bigger benny’ the SGC-140 is only bigger than SGC-120 which was named ‘Big Benny.’
New features added to the new world’s largest heavy-lift crane include :4000t extra counterweight,Reinforced boom and mast, Upgraded boom hoist, Improved winches and Power pack units, New rail and bogie design.
The SGC 140 will make its debut on a three-year contract helping to build an oil refinery in Kazakhstan and installing equipment to increase the reservoir pressure in the giant Tengiz field in the northern Caspian Sea.
The client is Tengizchevroil, or TCO, a consortium that includes Chevron, ExxonMobil, KazMunay Gas, the Kazakhstan state operator, and Lukoil of Russia.
Last year, TCO approved a $36.8bn expansion to the Tengiz field, and Sarens’ contract is part of that programme of works.
