Nigeria to review National Building Code

Nigeria plans to review the National Building Code 2006 in what Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola says is aimed at improving on measures to safeguard lives and property in the country.

Mr Fashola said that recent deaths associated with wrong plans for buildings and other construction projects in the country, informed the decision to hatch the building code.

“The new national building code code is intended to check the construction industry. In recent years, we have witnessed deaths and injuries associated with poor building procedures,” he said.

He made the announcement at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, while inaugurating members of the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON).

The move has been backed by professionals in the industry who said that the decision to review was in right direction that could help to develop and maximize the potentials within the nation’s housing and construction sector.
