Ford Australia Issues Urgent Recall of Ranger and Everest V6 Models Over Engine Defect

Ford Australia has issued an urgent safety recall for over 13,000 of its popular Ranger and Everest vehicles, citing a potentially dangerous engine defect that could lead to sudden engine failure while driving.

What’s the Issue?
The recall affects Ranger and Everest models fitted with the 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine, produced between 2022 and 2025.

According to Ford, a manufacturing defect in the engine’s left-hand camshaft sprocket could result in the component fracturing without warning. If this occurs, it could cause the engine to stall unexpectedly, leading to a sudden loss of motive power.

This mechanical fault poses a significant safety risk to both vehicle occupants and other road users. Affected vehicles may experience a sudden engine shutdown while in motion, increasing the likelihood of serious accidents.

When Was the Recall Announced?
Ford publicly announced the recall in late April 2025 following multiple reports of engine issues. It is understood that the company has been in communication with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to ensure the appropriate safety protocols are followed.

How is Ford Responding?
The carmaker has begun contacting affected owners directly via mail, encouraging them to bring their vehicles to authorised dealerships for inspection. Dealers will check for the defective camshaft sprocket and replace the component, along with any related parts, at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Despite the severity of the issue, Ford has stated that the vehicles can still be driven cautiously in the interim. However, drivers are advised to remain vigilant and report any unusual engine behavior, such as rattling or performance drops.

The recall does not impact Ford Ranger or Everest models powered by the 2.0-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder engine.
