Bosch East Africa Consulting Engineers Ltd – part of Bosch Holdings (Pty) Ltd – has extended its mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services to now include civil and structural engineering services.

Bosch East Africa, which is based in Nairobi, Kenya, has shown substantial growth over the last five years in the building services sector, offering electrical, mechanical, HVAC and project management services for residential, industrial and commercial installations.

Projects include hotels, office and apartment blocks, as well as warehouses and shopping malls.

“The company’s specialist consulting services now encompass civil and structural engineering to building services, public infrastructure, agriculture and industrial sectors,” explains Gary Barlow, managing director, Bosch East Africa.

“An important advantage for our clients, is that effective co-ordination of all services is carried out in-house.

For example, internal plumbing and drainage is seamlessly integrated with the external water supply and drainage system, whilst structural design takes initial cognisance of the requirements for MEP services.

“Bosch East Africa supports a localisation strategy, where Kenyans are engaged in all engineering positions. The company’s current focus is on the East African region, but we are also venturing to selected markets in sub-Saharan and North Africa, to offer the full range of Bosch Holdings services.”

Civil engineering consultancy services offered include the design and construction supervision of bulk earthworks, roads, storm water structures, dams, water and waste water treatment plants, pipelines and solid waste management facilities.

The company’s structural engineering services comprise reinforced concrete and structural steel design and construction supervision of residential, industrial and commercial buildings, from the foundations to the roof.

Recent successes for Bosch East Africa include MEP services for the Cedar Mall, Java Coffee Shops, Serena Hotel, Delta Annex Office Block and the Jalaram Medical Centre and Temple. The local team was also involved in an ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis plant and effluent treatment plant project.

Structural engineering services offered have been in structural integrity testing for residential buildings, whilst civil engineering consultancy services have been in the design of a waste water recycling plant and associated reticulation and supply pipelines.

The company was recently appointed to provide civil/structural and MEP engineering consultancy services for an outpatient children’s hospital in Kenya, where there are no public utility services in the vicinity.

The Gertrudes Garden Children Hospital project, which commenced in April 2018, is due for completion in mid 2020.

Bosch East Africa enhances its multi-disciplinary consulting services with a maintenance and support programme, to ensure all contractors comply with contractual and regulatory requirements.

Bosch Holdings – with its head office in South Africa – specialises in multidisciplinary consulting engineering and project management, as well as construction and operations management.

The establishment of Bosch East Africa in 2013 forms part of the Bosch Holdings’ global growth strategy, which also encompasses the establishment of Bosch Engenharia in Brazil in 2007 and the recent acquisition of Booker Tate Limited in the UK in 2017.
