India will be taking a large delegation to Africa Utility Week, a power event taking place from 5 -17 May 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa, a top official has said.
Dr. Rajeev Singh, the Director General and CEO of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) also said that they will be aiming to connect over 7000 industry professionals across the full spectrum of the power sector to address what he called,”today’s challenges and implement tomorrow’s solutions.”
Dr Singh is optimistic that Indian utility vendors and services will find a huge market and scope in Africa especially in the South African energy sector.
“To our understanding this is perhaps the largest power show in African continent. Hence, it is imperative that India as a nation participates and take trade advantage,” he said in an interview with ESI Africa.
Dr Singh said that Indian firm were keen in venturing into the power sector in Africa.
“Power is one of the most critical components of infrastructure crucial for the economic growth and welfare of nations. The existence and development of adequate infrastructure is essential for sustained growth of the Indian economy,” he said.

In order to meet the increasing demand for electricity in the country, massive addition to the installed generating capacity is required, offers Mr Singh.
India’s power sector is one of the most diversified in the world. Sources of power generation range from conventional sources such as coal, lignite, natural gas, oil, hydro and nuclear power to viable non-conventional sources such as wind, solar, and agricultural and domestic waste.
The 18th African Utility Week bring together over 7,000 decision makers from more than 80 countries to discuss the challenges, solutions and successes in the power, energy and water sectors on the continent.
The event will showcase the latest technologies and services in generation (incorporating fossil fuels, off grid, nuclear and renewables), transmission and distribution (including metering) and new technologies (including storage, mini grids, micro grids, IOT and ICT systems).
