South Korea’s leading broadband Internet provider KT Corporation, has announced that it has completed construction of Africa’s first nationwide 4G LTE network in Rwanda.
Speaking at the Transform Africa Summit 2018 in the capital Kigali, KT president, Kyung-lim Yun said that completion of the project now puts Rwanda among few countries with countrywide 4G LTE coverage.
“This is the first time to have a countrywide 4G network coverage in Africa as there is only a small number of countries that have more than 95 per cent of population with 4G LTE coverage around the world,” he said.
Faster internet, noted Mr Yun will facilitate the creating and developing new services beyond telecom industry such as smart medicine, smart security and smart energy service as well.

KT and the Rwandan government established a joint venture in 2013 -KT Rwanda Networks for nationwide 4G LTE network construction.
Rwanda has a population of approximately 12 million, including 8.6 million mobile subscribers and more than 1.15 million smartphone users.
KT and the Rwandan government hope that the network construction will set the stage for Industry 4.0 in the African country.
