Algeria is constructing a 1,450 MW combined cycle power plant in Mostaganem as it seeks to diversify its energy mix and strengthen power output, the country’s state owned utility Sonelgaz has announced.
Keller, World’s leading geotechnical contractor has started working on the project,carrying out extensive ground engineering and foundations work needed for the new power station.
The international firm was announced the winner of the £28m contract early this month, in what the firm calls the “largest-ever in Algeria where we have been active for 12 years.”
“The award recognises our capacity to bring a full design solution to the client as well as our reputation for executing to high standards,”said Thorsten Holl, President, Europe Middle East and Africa division.
Keller’s work involves producing a working platform of about 90,000 m³, and installing 260,000 metres of stone columns to mitigate liquefaction and 47,500 metres of bored piles as foundation support.
Completion of the combined cycle power plant project is set for first quarter of 2019.
