The Africa Construction Law (ACL) Conference returns for its 6th edition on 11–12 May 2026, reinforcing its role as a leading platform shaping the future of construction in Africa.
This flagship annual event brings together senior legal practitioners, policymakers, developers, financiers, contractors, and industry stakeholders from across the continent’s construction, infrastructure, and energy sectors.
The 2026 ACL Conference, themed “The Future of Construction in Africa,” will take place in person in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The theme reflects the conference’s focus on how legal frameworks, financing models, risk management strategies, and dispute resolution mechanisms must evolve to support Africa’s growing infrastructure ambitions.
This year’s edition will convene experienced construction law professionals from English-speaking, Francophone, and Lusophone jurisdictions, offering a truly pan-African perspective.
Discussions will explore emerging trends, regulatory shifts, and practical solutions shaping the next phase of construction and infrastructure development across Africa.
Building on the success of previous editions, ACL Conference 2026 is expected to attract strong global participation.
In 2025, delegates attended from countries including the United Kingdom, Egypt, Ghana, Portugal, the UAE, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, South Africa, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Switzerland, Mauritius, Nigeria, Austria, the United States, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Liberia, and Qatar.
Participants represented contractors, employers, developers, lenders, government institutions, law firms, arbitral bodies, expert consultancies, and academic institutions.
The 2026 speaker lineup will feature leading legal and technical experts providing practical insight into the legal, commercial, and regulatory issues influencing the future of construction in Africa.
Across two days of plenary sessions, panel discussions, and interactive dialogues, the conference will address critical themes, including:
-
Tackling delayed payments and liquidity challenges in African construction projects
-
Reducing corruption and improving governance in project delivery
-
Strengthening project bankability and infrastructure financing structures
-
Managing risk allocation in complex African construction contracts
-
Navigating currency risks and improving capital mobility
-
Enhancing arbitral independence in African construction disputes
-
Enforcement of arbitral awards against African sovereigns
The programme will also feature an engaging Oxford-style debate examining the effectiveness of dispute boards in African construction projects.
A key highlight of the event is the ACL Annual Gala Dinner & Awards, an exclusive evening celebrating excellence, innovation, and leadership across Africa’s construction and legal ecosystems.
Supported by leading law firms, academic institutions, arbitral bodies, and professional organisations, the Africa Construction Law Conference 2026 is a must-attend event for professionals shaping the future of construction, infrastructure, and dispute resolution in Africa.
