Atlas Energy Solutions Locks in Power Equipment Deal with Caterpillar to Support Private Grid Expansion

EVENTS SPOTLIGHT

AUSTIN, Texas — Atlas Energy Solutions has entered into a long-term agreement with Caterpillar Inc. to secure significant power generation capacity through 2029, a move aimed at accelerating the company’s private grid development strategy as industrial demand for electricity continues to surge.

The companies announced that the Global Framework Agreement (GFA) will cover approximately 1.4 gigawatts of additional power generation assets, with orders scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2029.

Once fully deployed, Atlas expects to own and operate roughly 2.0 gigawatts of power generation capacity by 2030, strengthening its position in the emerging market for privately operated power systems.

The new capacity will be supplied through a portfolio of large-load, natural gas reciprocating generator sets, including CG260-16 stationary units designed for behind-the-meter (BTM) applications and G3520 series generators, which can be deployed for both BTM installations and bridge power solutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, Atlas will provide rolling demand forecasts and commit to aggregate purchase obligations of about $840 million over the duration of the deal.

In turn, Caterpillar will reserve manufacturing capacity aligned with those forecasts, ensuring the availability of critical equipment as Atlas expands its power infrastructure pipeline.

Atlas President and CEO John Turner said the agreement is central to the company’s strategy of linking private investment to private energy networks.

“Our core power strategy of connecting private capital to private grid systems depends on securing the right equipment and deploying it at the right time,” Turner said. “This agreement provides supply certainty, pricing discipline and execution reliability as we scale this platform.”

Atlas is targeting a growing market driven by rising electricity demand from artificial intelligence infrastructure and the reshoring of manufacturing, trends that are placing increasing pressure on traditional utility grids.

According to Turner, grid constraints are prompting industrial customers to seek alternative power solutions, creating opportunities for private grid developers.

“The build-out of AI infrastructure and manufacturing reshoring are driving unprecedented power demand growth,” he said.

“This structural supply-demand imbalance presents a compelling multi-year opportunity for Atlas, and we look forward to working with Caterpillar to deliver reliable private grid solutions.”

Through the partnership, Atlas aims to expand its ability to provide resilient, behind-the-meter energy systems to industries requiring large and dependable power supplies.
