Construction of Palm Exotica that upon completion would be the tallest building in Africa has be thrown into uncertainty after Kenyan environmental watchdog halted the process.
In stopping the plans to actualize the skyscraper, National Environment Management Authority says the project violates several of its clauses.
“Palm Exotica is not in conformity with the existing planning framework for example Zoning plans, physical planning laws and regulations, survey regulations and Coast foreshore reservations and stability,” Nema Acting Director General, Mr Mamo Mamo said.
Based on the above grounds and in light of the provisions of Environmental Management and Coordination Act, Cap 387, the authority is of the view that the proposed project will not enhance sustainable development and sound environmental management,” he added.

Nema now wants investors to either re-design the project to conform with existing planning framework or seek an alternative site.
