Engineers from China Communication Construction Company(CCCC) that has been working on the construction of Kenya’s standard gauge railway(SGR) line have announced that the second phase of the SGR from Nairobi to Naivasha, commonly referred to as Phase 2A, is now complete.
‘We have embarked on a month-long safety testing along the 120-kilometre stretch of the new railway,” said Fredrick Andera a technician with CCCC.
Mr Andera said that the exercise is aimed at checking the track, communication, signaling system while adjusting the defects ahead of commissioning.
The Sh150 billion railway project will help connect the capital Nairobi to Naivasha a small town 120km away.
The first phase involved construction of a railway line linking the Coastal town of Mombasa and Nairobi.
